The boarding staff create a warm, caring, home-away-from-home atmosphere with a dedicated focus on the health and wellbeing of the girls. The staff get to know all the girls well and respectful, open relationships develop over the years as they share the girls’ highs and lows, and offer encouragement during their time at school.
All boarding house staff are well-qualified in their roles to look after the girls with each of the houses having a team to provide around the clock care. The boarding team is supplemented by the Health Centre staff who include three counsellors, a registered nurse and physio.
In addition to the staff, the Year 13 Boarding Prefects run a student-led Boarders’ Council. As well as organising social events and providing valuable student feedback, they oversee the buddy system. Older girls mentor newcomers into boarding, helping them settle in and ensuring they have a ‘big sister’ to call on. This echoes the ‘big sister, little sister’ culture that is so strong throughout St Margaret’s.
