New parking procedures on Winchester Street

Date: 25th April 2019

The St Margaret’s College Leadership Team has been exploring a number of options to improve accessibility to the campus, especially at the busy drop-off and collection times of the school day. We continue to work closely with Christchurch City Council to identify potential remedies.

From the start of Term 2 (Monday 29 April), we will trial modified parking procedures on Winchester Street. We will review their effectiveness at the end of the term (Friday 5 July).

Maggie’s Car Park – Permit Parking only during peak times and exit direction change
The parking area next to Maggie’s Cafe is permit parking only between 8:00am and 9:00am and 2:30pm to 4:00pm. No drop-off or pick-up is permitted in the parking area during these times. Permits will only be issued to Pre-School and Years 1 to 4 parents. Exit from the car park will be left hand turn only.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Zone – P1 in peak times, loop around the block if daughter not ready
The drop-off and pick-up zone is now on Winchester Street outside the Junior School. It will run from Maggie’s Cafe to the end of the Junior School and be clearly marked by sandwich board signage. City Council signage will be changed in due course. This will operate between 8:00am to 9:00am and 2:30pm to 4:00pm. During these times, stopping is restricted to no longer than one minute, “P1”, enough time to let children safely in and out of the car. For traffic flow to work efficiently please continue around the Andover Street – Clissold Street – Merivale Lane circuit if your child is not ready to be collected.

Both areas will be monitored to ensure conditions are adhered to.

We kindly ask all parents to respect this new system and help us implement it for the safety of the students and the benefit of all road users.

Many thanks in advance for your co-operation.

Kind regards

Fionn Moore
