The St Margaret’s College Music Department follows a philosophy of maximum engagement, enjoyment and participation. Students taking classroom Music are encouraged to expand their knowledge and appreciation of music in all its genres and contexts, developing the skills necessary for understanding and creating music individually and in groups through the study of musical theory, history, composition and performance.
Our co-curricular programme is extensive and open, with many different options for girls in Years 7-13, including vocal and instrumental ensembles, and covering classical, jazz, rock and pop genres. The vast majority of groups are open to all abilities, with some auditioned ensembles to extend the most able students. There are multiple opportunities throughout the year to showcase groups in the community.
