In the St Margaret’s College Junior School (Years 1 to 6), we believe the key to successful learning in the Junior School is through providing opportunities where the girls feel confident in themselves as learners. They need to feel secure to take risks, develop resilience and collaborate with others all in an environment that gives a sense of community and belonging.
Our strength is in the way that we provide this holistic learning environment where every girl knows their value. The relationships in learning are central to our success as our teachers work with their students both within the classroom, through pastoral care and across a wide range of co-curricular activities. This is paramount to successful learning.
Our vision as a Junior School is to Live, Learn and Lead which builds on the whole school vision Live and Lead. We know that learning is the foundation of all other achievements and is at the core of our programmes. Our values of “REDS” enable girls to Live, Learn and Lead. These are woven through all aspects in our day.
The Junior School provides girls with a balanced programme that embraces all areas of the curriculum. We include a range of programmes that include Education Outside the Classroom, Sports and Performing Arts, Languages, Computational Thinking, opportunities to learn Speech and Drama and musical instruments through itinerant teachers.
We focus on developing happy, independent, life-long learners. Senior students mentor, guide and support the junior girls with both class and extra curricular activities and work with the Year 6 Junior School Council.
Being part of a larger school community has many benefits for the Junior School students. Having older girls work in partnership with the Junior School girls allows them to learn, respect and look up to their ‘older sisters’. It helps give them direction, aspiration and inspiration.
This is where the St Margaret’s adventure begins!
