SMC Now a ChildFund Global School

St Margaret's College is delighted to be a participating school this year.

ChildFund Global Schools is a genuine two way exchange of information, ideas and experiences between schools in the developing world and New Zealand.

The aim of ChildFund Global Schools is to help boost the quality of education in developing countries like Zambia while exposing Kiwi teachers and schools to the issues facing developing countries.

ChildFund Global Schools 2009 is a year long programme for participating NZ and Zambian schools, which involves four aspects:

In July, NZ teachers will experience ten days in rural schools in Zambia, team-teaching with their Zambian colleagues. In August, Zambian teachers will come to NZ to visit their partner schools.

NZ teachers and students use their experiences to raise awareness of issues in developing countries in their schools and communities through curriculum related activities and fundraising activities.

Students from NZ and Zambian partner schools share their perspective on specific topics.

The money raised by NZ schools goes towards improving the quality of teaching and the quality of learning in Zambian classrooms. This involves a year long training programme for participating Zambian teachers and providing vital classroom resources to stimulate learning.

Each participating NZ school has a year to raise $15,000 (per participating teacher).
