Campus Development Plan

Building the next 100 years of St Margaret’s College.

campus_development_planOur school has been compared to a rare and sought after old jewellery box – rather rusted and showing the wear of years on the outside while inside lie beautiful sparkling precious gems! Undoubtedly this metaphor represents our campus and the community within it. Inside our buildings we have innovative leading edge teaching and learning and teachers, parents and present and past students committed to the values and vision of St Margaret’s. The facilities and buildings are lagging behind the expectations of our community and many are not addressing the needs of a modern-day school.

The Trust Board and Management of the College are committed to providing excellent, state of the art buildings and resources for our current and future students and teachers.

We have developed a Campus Development Plan for St Margaret’s which will work in parallel with the ongoing maintenance and beautification of the site as well as the building of new facilities in keeping with our strategic direction and in futureproofing our campus.

The whole community has been involved in the development of the Campus Plan. The staff were part of a “Teacher directed schools” initiative in 2006 and the findings of their committee work and their work on the Middle School and other academic initiatives have helped to formulate this planning.

There has also been wide consultation with stakeholder groups of the St Margaret’s family during 2008 and 2009.

In July 2008 the Trust Board contracted N-Compass Ltd as consultants in the tender process to find a suitable firm of architects to develop the Plan. In October 2008 Wilkie Bruce were appointed to the role with Alec Bruce as the Project Manager.

The Executive Principal, the Leadership Team and Alec Bruce have extensively sought input from academic, boarding, arts and sports staff. The catering, grounds and cleaning departments as well as the PTA and Old Girls’ Association and the Trust Board were also consulted.

A Property Control Group has been formed as a sub committee of the Trust Board to oversee the process.

Alec Bruce has presented a Campus Development Plan which can be seen by clicking on the links below. The plan identifies several major projects and the Property Control Group and Leadership Team have been charged with the prioritisation of these projects.

There are several criteria which have been used in this process of prioritisation. We asked how does each project:

  • Support the special Anglican and community character of the school
  • Support the vision and the
  • Benefit teaching and learning
  • Benefit the maximum number of students
  • Have flexibility of usage
  • Benefit the Centennial celebrations and whole community entertainment/hosting
  • Maximise marketing opportunities
  • Build on ‘points of difference’
  • Offer an alternate income stream
  • Enhance ‘look and feel’ of site.
  • Increase/preserve green space
  • Address issues of sustainability and future proofing
