Health Studies

academicHealth Studies is an interactive and innovative subject that challenges students to think critically around key health issues and work collaboratively to explore the attitudes and values of people who support different perspectives. Students examine contemporary and ethical dilemmas and explore and analyze local and international health trends and issues in relation to well-being and social justice for all. They gain a conceptual understanding of the determinants of health and relevant personal, interpersonal and societal influences and consequences, and also research and propose possible strategies for change. Units studied are relevant to current issues, and include gender studies, alternative health practices, topics relating to personal safety, ethics, and social justice issues.

Respect for others and on-going self evaluation and development of the attitudes and values which shape who we are, form the key components of this subject. Health Studies is closely linked to Physical Education from years 9 to 11, but is taught as a separate subject at Years 12 and 13. Staff are passionate in their delivery of this stimulating subject. The course is suited to students who enjoy being challenged and/or wish to enter into any field of Health Services as a career option.
