Boarding

Boarding at St Margaret's College is a service available to those who require an onsite community as part of their daughter’s education. Tradition and stability provide the foundation which nurtures innovation and growth during the adolescent years. We value and place an importance on the social and ethnic differences that enrich our boarding community. Through a wide range of opportunities, young women in our care are encouraged to live and lead in a global community and to better understand the responsibilities that come with this role.
The Boarding Houses at St Margaret’s College have each been established to meet the specific needs of the girls during the different stages of their academic, physical, and emotional growth. There are three main facilities on site for the boarding students and each are administered by an onsite manager. Parents and Guardians of boarders are encouraged to be partners in the boarding education of their daughters and it is encouraged that they participate in regular boarding house events and functions.
All Boarding Managers report to the Executive Principal, and the Head of Boarding monitors ongoing procedures and structures for all boarding students and staff. Julius House caters for our junior boarders Y7-10 and Kilburn House caters for our senior boarders Y11-12. St Margaret’s has moved towards a more independent living environment for Year 13 boarders who are located in Cranmer House. This experience is designed to prepare for the transition from secondary school to a flatting/tertiary environment where self responsibility, discipline and independence is required.
A College Nurse is located within Kilburn House and operates an extensive Health Centre that caters for the needs and welfare of boarders, day students and staff within the college.
Our Catering Manager and her team are well skilled at providing outstanding meals throughout the day and night. There is a Cafeteria that runs out of the dining room in Kilburn House and this is available for all students and staff during week days. Supervisors are available each evening and in the weekends to assist with the daily logistics within each of the houses. They are also available to assist the boarders with their ongoing studies and individual needs.
Leave is at the discretion of the House Manager on duty and all special or extended leave must have parental/guardian permission.
Our Senior Prefects in boarding oversee the Boarders Council who meet regularly to discuss matters pertaining to boarders in all year groups. This gives the girls an opportunity to reflect and discuss on logistics and structures within boarding and have a voice on matters that are important to the boarding students. The council is made up of representatives from all year group levels within boarding.
